This number begins with congratulation of Kamchatka federal department for protection and reproduction of fish resources and fisheries regulations (Kamchatrybvod) upon fiftieth anniversary.
Some articles in this number were dedicated to the anniversary of one of the eldest guarding organizations of the Far East, they are--"Guard of live oceanic resources", "On unsteady bridge to the future", "The undeclared war" (about fight of Kamchatrybvod for conservation of crab of Kamchatka with the monopolist of crab catching on the Russian Far East company "Dalmoreprodukt"), "Inspector Meshkov's pictorial stories", "To grieve for everybody is cruel duty of poet".
The most problematical material was the article of Deputy Chairman of Russian State Fisheries Committee Viacheslav Zilanov "Another blot after Alaska", about criminal negligence of the Government of the Soviet Union and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the result of which Russian fishermen lost fishing part (20,000 sq. kilometers) in the Bering sea, where 150,000 tons of fish could be caught yearly. The second article "Capitalizmo o muerte!" of journalist Boris Misuk is about break-down of fishery industry of Russian Primorsky region.
Among publications there are problematical articles "Or brimful barrels of herring, or whales" about resumption of whaling; "Will Chukotka have it's own fleet?" about regional status of fishery Chukotka, which did not have it own average tonnage fishing fleet.
In this number we continue (as in first and second numbers of 1996) the discussion about the opportunity of oil and gas extraction on shelves of the Bering and the Okhotsk seas--"Axe under the bench", "Oil spills of versions".
There are many interesting materials about life of oceanic occupants in this issue--"The mystery of oceanic giants", "The expedition of I. Kruzenshtern discovered Kamchatka crab " and also about different cases happened in ocean: "Underwater odyssey of seaman Rudenko", "Wandering phantom", and about life problems of people who work at sea--"Everybody who on Russian territory is legal", "Sea kissed in lips...", "Unable to betray".
